Color can be tricky and our eyes are good at deceiving our minds! Have you ever gone to paint the ocean bright blue, or used green straight from the tube to recreate a landscape, and found that your colors just look… off?
That’s because the colors we’ve come to associate with certain things, like a blue sky or a yellow lemon, are often not true to life. When you break it down, is a lemon actually yellow?
There are several ways to learn to identify color, including paint swatches or Color-aid samples for an analog approach, and programs like Procreate for your mobile device or laptop. Once you know what color to mix, it’s time to experiment with different recipes for recreating that color.
In this example, I talk about finding the perfect ocean color.
